"All my life I been thinking bout a life that won't stop..." I think we all long for and desire something more. That was my mindset when I started writing my song, 'Life That Won't Stop' from The Codex: I've Got Next. I've been pretty successful throughout my entire life. I don't say any of this to brag, but to show that despite all of the grinding and working hard the longing for more still persists.
What do we do with this kind of longing? The world would like to offer us solutions like more money, more sex, more material things, but deep down, we are never satisfied with more of anything. I like how the Bible puts it in Proverbs 27:20, "Just as death and destruction are never satisfied, so human desire is never satisfied." And consider how depressing King Solomon felt in Ecclesiastes 2:11,
"But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless—like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere."
Since the world really can't satisfy us, then what will? This isn't meant to be a depressing conversation, although it is good for us to consider the true meaning of life and all of its hardship. All of our lives we are groomed to work hard, find our purpose, start a family, prepare our legacy, and then leave. Check out my social media campaign for the song. Shout out to Danny @ComicsforChrist for creating this comic for me.
Yes, life and the pursuit of happiness can feel meaningless but King Solomon also told us the meaning for our longing and lack of satisfaction.
"What does the worker gain from his toil? I have seen the burden that God has laid upon the sons of men to occupy them. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men, yet they cannot fathom the work that God has done from beginning to end.
I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and do good while they live, and also that every man should eat and drink and find satisfaction in all his labor—this is the gift of God." - Ecclesiastes 3:9-13
God has set eternity in our hearts, this is why the temporary gains of this life can never satisfy us. We are made to last forever, and the only way we can last forever is by putting our faith in Jesus Christ, who has purchased our eternity with Him. This is the Good News! There is an eternal destination for the way we live on earth and we have been given a choice.
Which will you choose? Thanks for viewing and I hope you enjoy the song.
